Jailbreak iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Untethered

Some time ago we come up with information that proves that iPhone 4S running the latest iOS 5.0.1 has been jailbroken by iPhone Dev Team Lead by pod2g and their fellow iOS hackers from Chronic Dev team and now they have video to show to public with real proof that they have found untethered jailbreak for A5 devices that includes jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. For far they have demoed only jailbreak for iPhone 4S that you can see on video bellow.

The video that you see above was shot by Dustin Howett, an iOS developer and respectable member of the Chronic Dev Team. As you can see, he demonstrates a complete, untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4S running the latest iOS 5.0.1.

We still don’t have any info about exact release date, but pod2g says: “Only a few to wait now”, so you can interpret this in many ways but one is clear that there will be a jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 sometime soon and we will be the first to share this information with our readers.

Pod2g, the user who is responsible for tethered and untethered iOS 5 hack began his research on A5 devices late last year and already has made huge progress in this area by showing untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S also he found the way around the iPod Touch’s running iOS 5.0.1. Next to come is jailbreak for Apple TV. The only problem was that iPhone 4S “caching issue” and he couldn’t find the way around it till now.

While the rest of iDevices running A4 processor now enjoying and untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1, iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owner still left behind due to complex security introduced with A5 processor. Pod2g and both iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev team have done great work to find a way around Apple’s security and we believe that jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad running the latest iOS 5.0.1 will be released by the one of this month.

iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Has Been Jailbroken By iPhone Dev Team

iPhone dev team logoListen up, fanboys and everyone who is looking for jailbreak, because this is one you won’t want to miss. The iPhone 4S has been officially jailbroken. Despite the fact that the latest chipset used in iPad 2 and iPhone 4S (A5) haven’t been exploited so it takes a lot of time for the iOS jailbreaking community to come with a jailbreak for a new iOS device.

The legendary iPhone Dev-Team found a way to get Cydia running on both the iPhone 4S and finally on the iPad 2, though the jailbreak is “VERY preliminary.” As jailbreak author states, there are still big pieces missing and plenty of work left to do, so unfortunately the jailbreak won’t be released to the public just yet. Luckily, we can at least get a peek from screenshots bellow to make sure that this thing is real.

The latest iPhone 4S and iPad 2, both of which are based on a still unexploited dual-core Apple A5 chip, haven’t received a jailbreak for iOS 5 and latest versions yet, but it appears that they’ll be getting one soon as a certain respectable iPhone hacker has let us know that the iPhone 4S has already been jailbroken along with the Cydia installed on iPad 2 as well.

MuscleNerd – well known iPhone hacker and member of the iPhone Dev Team posted on twitter screenshots of jailbroken iOS 5 installed on iPhone 4s.

VERY preliminary 4S JB: twitpic.com/76vcp4 twitpic.com/76vct2 (Huge missing pieces prevent public release. LOTS of work left)

The jailbreak is in very early stage and is still some time away from a public release. There is no estimated time of arrival for this to public so we expect you all to show a little patience and let the Dev Team do their work that they have done really well since first generation iPhone back in 2007.

iPhone 4s jailbreak pictures are more likely legit as they are shared by MuscleNerd who has done many contributions to iPhone hacking community over the past few years. The first shared screenshot shows gained root access on the iPhone 4S (Apple codename N94) on iOS 5 whereas the second screenshot shows latest version of Cydia running on iPhone 4,1 (which is another name for the 4S widely used on web) with a Siri voice assistant prompt at the bottom. You can see the two screenshots below:

iPhone 4s Jailbreak by iPhone Dev Team

All jailbreaks currently available for iOS 5 installed on iPad or iPhone 4 (except for iPhone 3GS with old bootrom) are tethered. That means that users have to be connected to a computer to reboot their device into jailbroken state. If you device hangs you can’t reboot it without losing the jailbreak. While the iPhone hacking community did come up with a SemiTether solution which allowed jailbreaking enthusiasts to reboot into their jailbroken iOS 5 device with limited functionality, it is the untethered jailbreak which we’re waiting for and it seems that we iPhone Dev Team have made huge step forward into right direction.

We all hope that the iOS 5 jailbreak for iPhone 4S will be untethered so we won’t have to be at computer every time there is a need for a reboot. MuscleNerd did not clarified which exploit is being used for the jailbreak and it just might be the one of those five userland exploits which were announced by folks behind the GreenPois0n jailbreaking tool back in September even before the iPhone 4S was released to publick.

The iPhone Dev Team has managed to get latest version of Cydia up and running on both the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, but claiming that this is very preliminary and that there is still a lot of work left to be done, which means that for those hoping to jailbreak their new iPhone 4S will have to wait until the iPhone Dev Team releases it to the public, or until another developer like Chronic Dev Team finds a way first. As always, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the latest news from the iPhone 4S jailbreak scene. Stay tuned!

Update: There is one iPhone 4s jailbreak solution available already and you can get more information here

Should You Jailbreak Your iPhone 4S?

As we all know jailbreak for iPhone 4S is on the way, and while we are excited about ability to customize, add more application and do a lot more with the iPhone 4S, there are still numerous of reasons why you shouldn’t jailbreak your iPhone. Most things mentioned bellow are only theoretical and could be different from case to case, but it’s better to play safe than sorry.

Custom Theme for jailbroken iPhone 4S

Jailbreak means releasing full potential to your iPhone that Apple has locked down for one reason or another. This full potential allows you to customize your experience, starting from different icons, themes up to choosing how much icons you would like to see on one page and many other things that we covered on article: why you should jailbreak iPhone 4S.

Before you jailbreak your new iPhone 4S, be sure that you read the following warnings first. I’m not trying to talk you out of jailbreaking your iPhone, just giving you a heads up on what can happen if you do. Jailbreaking your iPhone is good thing if you know what you are doing and what you will get as the reward but it’s not for everyone.

You’ll Lose Your Warranty

If you jailbreak your iPhone, you will more likely lose warranty. Back in the days it was legal to jailbreak iPhone (it’s still legal by the law but not by Apple warranty terms) but Apple have made clear that jailbreaking your iPhone will void your warranty. This means that you could potentially lose a warranty even if you bring your phone back for jailbreak unrelated repair.

In most cases you will be able to restore your iPhone 4S back to factory setting but there can be damage when it’s not possible due to faulty hardware so you more likely will lose your warranty.
